Arizona’s home for indie, alternative, and local college radio, plus ASU Football, Men’s & Women’s Basketball, Baseball and Hockey.

Around here, we have two missions:

  1. The first mission of the station is to serve as a place where future broadcasters can learn the skills necessary for the world of radio.During their time at the Blaze, volunteers will learn how to operate studio equipment, edit sound and create radio spots, as well as many other aspects of radio.CLICK HERE TO GET INVOLVED
  2. An equally important secondary mission is to provide the Phoenix-metro area with an alternative to commercial radio programming. We pride ourselves in exposing fans to music they would not hear on other stations, as well as providing content with the ASU community in mind.LEARN ABOUT THE STATION

First and foremost, the Blaze is the place where music fans can come when they want to hear the best up-and-coming artists, as well as deeper tracks from better-known acts.

In addition, no other station in the Valley of the Sun compares when it comes to support for local music. Bands like The Gin Blossoms, Jimmy Eat World, and What Laura Says have all received major support in their early years and continue to be friends of the station today.

The Blaze is also known for its sports and news coverage that caters to our main audience, the ASU students and surrounding community. With extensive coverage of ASU Football, Men’s & Women’s Basketball, Baseball, and Ice Hockey, The Blaze covers Sun Devil athletics better than any other station in town. Although news can be found on various stations in town, our news department brings stories and discussions from the unique perspective of today’s college student.

The Blaze has always been and will be known for our support of local music. We play all sorts of local music, including what’s coming from Rubber Brother Records.

In 1990, the Blaze won the Phoenix New Times award for “Best Radio Station”. In 2008 and 2009, the Blaze was named by the Phoenix New Times as the “Best Station for Local Music“. Throughout our history, we have formed great bonds with local acts, some of which have gained nationwide recognition. As a champion of the local music scene, we serve an important role of helping new local bands spread the word about their music–this is a flag we proudly fly.
