TEMPE, AZ Following Arizona State’s tough loss last Saturday vs USC, the Sun Devils look to rebound from the loss as they take on Colorado Saturday night at Sun Devil Stadium.
Just over two minutes into the game, Steven Montez rushed for a gain of 13. A minute later, he found Devin Ross for a gain of 9. Continuing the drive, Montez passed to Bryce Bobo for gain of 19. With 9:33 remaining in the first quarter, James Stefanou made a 34-yard field goal.
ASU’s offense found some life as Manny Wilkins found Jalen Harvey for a gain of 16, but the offense stalled after.
With 6:07 in the first quarter, Shay Fields droppped wide-open pass off a flea flicker for a would-be touchdown.
With five and a half minutes remaining, Wilkins scrambled for a gain of 11.
However, with just over a minute left, Brandon Ruiz missed a 45-yard field goal to keep ASU scoreless.
END OF FIRST QUARTER: Colorado 3, ASU 0.
On the first play of the second quarter, Devin Ross dropped a pass from Montez for a would-be touchdown. A few plays later, Shay Fields gained 16 yards on a pass from Montez. Phillip Lindsay punched in 6-yard touchdown run with 11:46 remaining in the quarter.
ASU attempted to respond, as Wilkins found Harry for gain of 22. A couple plays later, Wilkins scrambled for gain of 9. On 4th an 1, Richard stopped short of first down and the ball went back to Colorado.
With 8:24, Lindsay was stopped short on a 4th and 1 attempt for Colorado.
30 seconds later, Wilkins scrambled for a gain of 21. With 5:38 remaining in the second quarter, Wilkins found Harry for a 20-yard touchdown pass.
With 1:40 remaining, Montez found Jay MacIntyre for a gain of 20 yards. Lindsay ran in a 1-yard touchdown with just over a minute remaining in the half.
ASU came back quick, as Wilkins completed a pass to Kyle Williams for gain of 16. Wilkins then scrambled for gain of 14, keeping the ball moving.
With just 7 seconds left in the half, Wilkins found Williams again, this time for a 25-yard touchdown.
ASU recovered a squib kick with just 4 seconds remaining, but Brandon Ruiz missed a 55-yard field goal as time expired in the half.
END OF SECOND QUARTER: Colorado 17, ASU 14.
Stefanou made a 53-yard field goal with 11 minutes remaining in the third quarter.
With just under 8 minutes in the game, Richard carried for 4 yards and a first down on 4th and 1. That play led to a Ruiz made field goal from 34 yards with 6 minutes remaining.
Just over a minutes later, Montez found Fields for a 54-yard touchdown pass.
Closing out the quarter for ASU, Eno Benjamin came in and rushed for gain of 20 to give ASU some momentum heading into the fourth.
END OF THIRD QUARTER: Colorado 27, ASU 17.
Ruiz made a 37-yard field goal a minute and a half into the final quarter to bring ASU closer.
With 11:15 remaining in the game, former tight end Jay Jay Wilson sacked Montez for a loss of 7 to force a punt.
Just under 3 minutes later, Richard ran in a 5-yard touchdown run.
Colorado responded quickly, as the first play of the next drive Montez found Lindsay for a gain of 60. That play led to Stefanou 28-yard field goal.
The next ASU drive, Richard ran for a gain 40. Eno Benjamin capped off that drive with a 19-yard touchdown.
With just under 4 minutes left, Jo Jo Wicker and DJ Calhoun sacked Montez to force third down and a Colorado punt.
After the punt, Richard found a gap and burst open a 63-yard run.
Wilkins ran in a 1-yard touchdown to seal it for ASU with 46 seconds left.
FINAL: ASU 41, Colorado 30.
