SDSU Senior RB Rashaad Penny has amassed more all-purpose yards (284) than the entire ASU offense combined (192), and he has his Aztecs out in front by as score of 20-14 at the half here in Tempe.

Penny took an opening drive, 3rd and 6, rush from his own 5-yard line to the house and the SDSU hasn’t looked back since.

The Sun Devils defense is the reason this game is not even more out of hand thus far. ASU has forced two Aztecs field goals inside the red zone, and Koron Crump is giving the SDSU O-line fits with his two sacks.

The Sun Devil offense hasn’t got into full rhythm yet, and will look to establish the run in the second half. ASU only has 46 yards on the ground.

Last week Arizona State made great adjustments at the half, and we’ll see what the coaching state brings in the third quarter.

Third Quarter

TOUCHDOWN     SDSU (27-14) 01:52  Rashaad Penny: 33 yard receiving TD from C. Chapman. Extra Point GOOD.

Fourth Quarter

FIELD GOAL        SDSU (30-14)  14:45  John Barron: 32 yard FG.

TOUCHDOWN    ASU    (20-30) 8:34 Frank Darby: 53 yard TD reception from Manny             Wilkins. 2 point conversion NO GOOD.

Final Recap

San Diego State (2-0) outplayed Arizona State (1-1) in every facet of the game, and the Sun Devils lost by a score of 30-20 on Friday night in Tempe.

The thwarting started early and resulted in points often for the Aztecs as senior running back Rashaad Penny took the third play of the game 95 yards to open up the scoring at 8:04 in the first.

Penny would finish the game with 216 yards on 18 carries and two TDs.

Kalen Ballage would answer back with a 1 yard rushing TD to tie the game at seven as time expired in the first quarter, but special teams miscues would allow the Aztecs to take control of the game, and they would never look back.

A 99 yard kick return TD by Penny, followed by two horrific punts by ASU allowed SDSU to go into the half leading 20-14.

San Diego State would continue to keep the game in check through the second half.

ASU’s offense looked lost at times. The Sun Devils could not convert on their only opportunity to come within one score as a two-point conversion would fail after a 53 yard TD catch that made the game 30-20 with 8:34 to go in the fourth by Frank Darby from Manny Wilkins.

ASU moves to 1-1 on the season and hits the road to take on Texas Tech on Saturday September 16, at 5 p.m.
