Kamala Harris on Call Her Daddy

Vice President Kamala Harris was featured on the most recent episode of Call Her Daddy where they discussed Harris’ life as a prosecutor, safety for women and abortion.
Alex Cooper, host and creator of
Call Her Daddy, began the episode with a disclaimer stating that she typically doesn’t have politicians or discuss politics on the podcast. However, her main focus of the podcast involves mental health, trauma, sex and women.

“At the end of the day, I couldn’t see a world in which one of the main conversations in this election is women, and I’m not a part of it,” Cooper said.

Cooper also stated that former president and 2024 republican candidate Donald Trump has been reached out to, and if he would like to be featured on Call Her Daddy to discuss women’s reproductive rights, he has the right to.

2024 democratic candidate Harris was then formally introduced by Cooper and welcomed onto the podcast.

Cooper started the discussion with a conversation about Harris’ mother. Harris said that her mother emphasized the importance of mental health and communicating their feelings within the house growing up. Harris followed that up by stating that one of the most important things she figured out that her mother was trying to tell her was to “figure out how you can take charge of a moment.”

The conversation then turned into getting to hear more about Harris’ background prior to working in Washington. Harris was a prosecutor, but her influence began in high school when she found out that her best friend was being sexually assaulted by her stepfather.

“I decided at a young age, I want to do the work of protecting vulnerable people,” Harris said.

Harris and Cooper talked about the importance of knowing what to do if a person is being abused. Harris said to tell someone trustworthy, know that there are people who want you to be safe and to know that you have a right to live in a place where you feel safe.

“Don’t quietly suffer,” Harris said. “You have done nothing wrong, and don’t let anyone convince you that you have.”

The two spent much of their time discussing abortion and what abortion bans actually mean for Americans. Harris said that in states that have an abortion ban, the pregnant woman looking for childcare would have to go through a series of steps to get the help she is looking for. This would include figuring out if she has paid leave to leave work, going to the airport, getting on a plane to fly to a city that has the childcare available and returning back to her home. Cooper followed that up by stating that all of that is only possible if the woman can afford to buy the plane ticket.

Harris and Cooper finished up the episode by discussing what Harris has in store for the future of her potential presidency. She said that her plan is to work with home builders in the private sector to create tax incentives to build by the end of her first term 3 million more housing units, give $25,000 down payment assistance for first time home buyers and to give tax credits and really understand that middle class and working people “need a break.”

“I believe in the promise of America,” Harris said. “I believe in our country, and I love our country.”
