Austin City Limits (ACL) 2024 weekend two has come to a close with a loud and eccentric performance from Tyler, the Creator. Thousands of people attended weekend two, and 187 performances were featured across eight stages.
Starting with day one, the star-studded lineup included Chris Stapleton, blink-182, Leon Bridges, Foster the People, and The Marías. The performances started at 12:55 p.m. and lasted until around 10 p.m.
Stapleton fans were in for a surprise on Friday night, as Stapleton opened his show with the iconic Willie Nelson. Nelson sat to Stapleton’s left, played on Trigger, his iconic guitar, and sang along until it was time for Stapleton to take over.
While Nelson and Stapleton performed at the American Express stage, the Honda Stage rocked out to blink-182 at the other side of the park. The band’s ACL performance marked one of many festival stops on its “One More Time” tour. The light show combined with the fireworks gave fans an experience they will never forget.
Day two of the festival was highlighted by Dua Lipa, Benson Boone, Teddy Swims, Pretty Lights, Khruangbin and Reneé Rapp. Performances by Joe P and JORDY began the day, and Dua Lipa ended the night.
One of the most entertaining and underrated artists going into day two was Benson Boone. The 22-year-old from Monroe, Washington delivered a grand performance that featured backflips and handsprings.
The excitement of his set was met by a heart-touching performance of his song “In The Stars.” Boone called on the crowd to put their phones down and enjoy the song with him. Many people in the crowd were brought to tears from the performance.
Following Benson Boone came the world-renowned superstar Dua Lipa. The crowd looked like it went on for miles as her performance was one of the best from the weekend.
The American Express stage sang along to hit songs, such as “One Kiss,” “Levitating,” “Dance The Night,” and so much more.
Dua Lipa showed love to the Austin, Texas natives by rocking a University of Texas football jersey right after the Longhorns took down the Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Rivalry.
Day two ended with an encore from Dua Lipa that included “Physical,” “Don’t Start Now” and “Houdini.”
Day three had the largest attendance of the weekend, which is no surprise as the lineup included many popular artists. Chappell Roan, Tyler, the Creator, Sturgill Simpson, The Red Clay Strays, Orville Peck, and Bakar are just some of the names that performed on the final day of Austin City Limits 2024.
Chappell Roan called on her fans to wear pink for her performance, and they showed out. The park was painted with shades of pink from homemade outfits and pink cowgirl hats.
Many of the attendees on Sunday were strictly there to see the Chappell Roan. Some attendees reported that they had sat in front of the American Express stage for hours to get as close as they could to the “Midwest Princess.”
Roan made it worthwhile with performances of some of her biggest songs, including “HOT TO GO!,” “Good Luck, Babe!” and “My Kink Is Karma.” She finished her set with “Pink Pony Club.”
Roan herself said it was her last performance of 2024, and she made it a great one. The crowd for her performance spanned to the Honda stage on the other side of the park. She was the most anticipated performance of the weekend.
Following Chappell Roan, there was an hour's wait for Tyler, the creator. The crowd’s energy remained high. His performance at ACL 2024 came just weeks before the release of his new album, “CHROMAKOPIA”
Tyler opened his set with “LEMONHEAD” and had the crowd jumping under the moonlight. Tyler performed 20 songs that night while ending with four of his biggest hits, including “Who Dat Boy,” “EARFQUAKE,” “NEW MAGIC WAND,” and he ended with “See You Again.”
Austin City Limits 2024 showed fans that standing out in nearly 100-degree weather was more than worth it. Outstanding performances from across the eight stages resulted in excitement and good times, showing fans from across the country what the city of Austin is all about through live music.
