Phoenix was alive with the sensual energy of R&B artist Kehlani, who brought their "CRASH" album on tour to the city on Oct. 29 at the Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre. Emerging stars FLO and Anycia opened the show, setting a vibrant tone that had enthused the audience from the moment the lights dimmed.
Anycia Symone Edwards, known as "Anycia," is a rapper from Atlanta, Georgia. She opened the show with her song, "GIRLS GONE WILD," and immediately captivated the crowd with her bold lyrics and a sound similar to the rapper GloRilla.
Following Anycia's short but impactful performance, FLO, a girl group from London, took the stage. The group, consisting of members Jorja Douglas, Stella Quaresma, and Renée Downer, has gained attention on social media with its debut single, "Cardboard Box," which they performed as their opener. The song’s powerful harmonies and feminine energy reflected a strong influence from Destiny's Child.
At 9:20 p.m., Kehlani made their entrance as the curtains fell away, revealing their lively presence to the eager crowd. Kehlani began the show with their hit song, "Next 2 U" off their "CRASH" album.
Kehlani wanted to entertain old and new fans, so they also included songs from their previous albums to the set. Some of the albums they performed songs off of include "SweetSexySavage," "You Should Be Here," "While We Wait," "It Was Good Until It Wasn't," "blue water road,” "While We Wait 2" and their single "Honey."
As the end of the show neared, Kehlani said that their favorite part of the tour was about to start. Kehlani invited any kids aged 12 and under to come on stage and dance with them. The audience was delighted when Kehlani's 5-year-old daughter made a special appearance, joining the other children to say “hi” to her mom. Kehlani then asked the kids to help perform the TikTok dance to the hit song "KEHLANI" by Jordan Adetunji, creating a heartwarming moment with the audience smiling.
The concert ended at around 11 p.m., and Kehlani expressed their gratitude to the audience. They stressed the importance of connection and taking care of mental health. Kehlani's message resonated deeply, encouraging everyone to take care of themselves and support one another.
The night concluded with a powerful "After Hours" performance, leaving fans exhilarated and yearning for more. For those 21 and up, Kehlani hosted an after-concert party at 11:11 nightclub in Scottsdale, Arizona. For those who went home after the concert, the experience still lingered in the air and buzzed on social media.
