Miserable Ghost Perform “In Their Finest Half-Hour”

Fans were treated to a night of charming performances and infectious energy as abrasive rock band Miserable Ghost celebrated the release of their new album, “Miserable Ghost: In Their Finest Half Hour.” The duo took center stage at the Nile Theater Coffee Shop on Feb. 7, 2025, performing old fan favorites and new unreleased tracks.

Kicking off the night was the four-piece band, Death Ode. The group quickly set the mood for the evening with a striking performance, both in sound and energy. The band’s booming sound and lively and passionate frontman created the optimal concert atmosphere. Attendees eagerly moshed throughout the band’s set.

Post-hardcore act Feed followed soon after, pivoting genres slightly while keeping the night's mood going. With a perfectly paired rhythm section and a guitarist utilizing unique pedals and effects, the three-piece kept the packed room on their feet dancing. Before the end of their performance, the group even played a song featuring Miserable Ghost guitarist/vocalist Elliott Peck.

After a quick load-in and set-up, the headlining act’s first notes finally rang out. Miserable Ghost wasted no time and immediately began their set with a bang. The duo brought their all, providing concertgoers an unforgettable and mesmerizing night of music. Performing songs off their new album, including “Intoxicated Drinkers at Stonehenge” and “The Body,” Peck’s invigorating stage presence was only enhanced by drummer Will Tantillo’s impressive technique and energy.

The band’s previous album, “When the Sun Explodes,” was recorded and released in 2023, when Peck was only 14 years old and Tantillo was 16 years old. Nearly two years later, the duo’s progress and maturity as musicians are abundantly clear.

“Our last album was less of an album, more of a demo type deal. At least, it sounds that way,” Peck said. “It was produced beautifully, but the songs are a little rough. It was definitely more raw, so a lot of them are s-----, but some still hold up.”

Despite being only two musicians, Miserable Ghost delivered a compelling performance that exemplified the band’s distinctive style and sound. Their new release, “Miserable Ghost: In Their Finest Half Hour,” illustrates how far the duo has come and how they have evolved as musicians.

“We’re just gonna get weirder, I think,” Tantillo said. “We’re really excited to make more stuff.”

Miserable Ghost’s next album is reportedly already near completion. The duo’s next planned performance is at Phoenix’s own Kingdom Boxing Gym on Mar. 27, 2025.
