Jordana, known for her collaboration with lo-fi band TV Girl, stunned audiences with an incredible vocal performance on Feb. 5 at Valley Bar in downtown Phoenix. She played the entirety of her most recent release, “Lively Premonition” in order, as well as a rousing cover of a Steely Dan classic. She ended with three of her songs from her collaboration with TV Girl.
Jordana was joined on tour by Rachel Bobbitt, a performer with a strong belt with an ethereal quality to the power of her voice. She crooned about love and loss, enchanting the Valley Bar’s audience with her unique voice. She roused the crowd with a stunning rendition of Sharon Van Etten’s “Love More.” Bobbitt held up in comparison to the stage presence of Jordana, who came on after a short break.
Jordana opened with “We Get By,” immediately showcasing her vocal ability. “Like A Dog” was brought alive by Jordana’s skill with a tambourine that she played in the style of Stevie Nicks.
“Multitudes of Mystery” was fascinating, as Jordana was accompanied by a recorded faux-phone call, similar in styling to sampling TV Girl has done in the past. It was a bit mysterious, but that was the energy Jordana wanted to create with the song.
Between songs, she interacted with the crowd, doing impressions by request of the crowd. Ranging from Donald Trump to Jennifer Coolidge, she elicited laughs and giggles from the crowd. Jordana interacted with the crowd naturally, a unique factor of her show.
She described her vocals on “The One I Knew” as being reminiscent of “theater kid vibes,” but the effect of her soft yet strong voice was a standout of the show.
“Raver Girl” was a crowd favorite, with many audience members seeming to know every word, despite the album’s freshly released status. Even though the Valley Bar is a small standing-room venue, it allows for fans and artists to feel close to each other.
After finishing the playthrough of “Lively Premonition,” she brought a swing-styled cover of “Any Major Dude Will Tell You” by Steely Dan to the crowd. Not many audience members knew the words, but she played with her signature swagger anyway.
To finish the show, she performed several songs from her album collaborating with TV Girl, “Summer’s Over.” The fans knew every word, and it was a great and united way to finish out a unique show at a fan-favorite venue.
