On Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., the Metro District Community Collaboration (MDCC), in partnership with Angels on Patrol and sponsored by SRP, will host its first-ever Fun Run. Proceeds from the $20.00 registration fee will benefit Angels on Patrol, a nonprofit organization that empowers police officers to go beyond the badge and assist families and children in crisis.
The course will take participants around The Loop at Metrocenter Mall, offering a nostalgic look at one of Phoenix’s most iconic landmarks before its transformation. Metrocenter Mall, opened in 1973, was once the largest shopping mall in Arizona and a hub for shoppers and car enthusiasts in the early 1980s. The mall closed in 2020 and is now being reimagined as The Metropolitan, an $850 million redevelopment project featuring modern apartments, senior housing, and vibrant community spaces for dining, shopping and leisure.

While the space is redeveloped, The Metro District Community Collaboration (MDCC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit bringing together businesses, property owners, and residents to enhance public safety, promote the district, and foster community investments in the former Metrocenter Mall area. MDCC’s goal is to create a thriving and inclusive environment that reflects the aspirations of the community.

Angels on Patrol, founded in 2009 by Phoenix Police Lt. Jacqui MacConnell, was created after she encountered a heartbreaking child abuse case. Since then, Angels on Patrol has touched over 22,000 lives across the Valley with emergency shelter, crisis intervention and other vital resources. It is the only nonprofit with a mission of empowering police officers to assist families in need beyond the call of duty.
