SURFS UP: LARSON RIPS THE HIGH SIDE AT HOMESTEAD

SURFS UP: LARSON RIPS THE HIGH SIDE AT HOMESTEAD

HOMESTEAD, Fla. – Kyle Larson rode the wall at Homestead-Miami Speedway en route to his second triumph at the track and 30th career Cup win.

Larson, 32, defeated his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Alex Bowman in a race that came down to the wire. It was Larson’s 14th victory in the NextGen car, the most of all drivers.

Larson told FOX Sports’ Regan Smith it was “One of the one of the coolest wins, I think, in my cup career just because of all the heartbreak I've had here.” He’s led 645 laps, the most all-time, but only earned two wins.

He began the weekend with a win in the Truck Series race on Friday night. Then suffered a loss on a late race restart after holding a 16 second advantage in Saturday’s Xfinity Series event.

According to Larson, he worried about a caution ruining the finish of the Cup race. “That's what I'm thinking every time I’m in the lead, especially here at Homestead,” Larson said.

Despite having a strong car, Larson didn’t have the best and said he “Had to work hard.” He was in contention throughout the day, but Team Penske driver Ryan Blaney dominated the day.

Blaney led a race-high 124 laps before an engine failure on lap 209 ended his day, drawing the final caution. Larson fell to fourth on the ensuing restart, but saved his tires and charged forward.

Larson got the best of Bowman with 7 laps left, when Bowman slipped from the lead and hit the wall. “I guess I choked that one away,” Bowman said to Jamie Little after the race.

“I hit it pretty hard with the right front,” Bowman said regarding the damage to his car. “I hate that for this Ally 48 group, they deserve better than that.”

Bowman settled for his best finish of the season and climbed to third in the standings behind Larson. Both trail teammate William Byron in the battle for the regular season championship.

Still, Bowman can be proud knowing he holds the record for the most top ten finishes this season at five. It is a major improvement for a driver and team that were 11th in points this time in 2024.

The NASCAR Cup Series next stops at the historic Martinsville Speedway. The oldest operating NASCAR track hosts 500 laps of short track action on Sunday, March 30 at 3 p.m. ET on FS1.
