When the puck drops between the Nashville Predators and the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight, marks the beginning of a new season and a glimmer of hope for yearning fans around the NHL that they’ll be the last ones standing, rejoicing with Lord Stanley’s cup come summer. With plenty of fun and surprises on the way, here are three of them for the upcoming NHL season.

The Clemson Tigers were once a force to be reckoned with in the college football landscape. Known for producing plenty of NFL-caliber talent each season, Clemson set a new standard for the program in 2015, reaching the College Football Playoff and the national title game The next year, the Tigers returned to the title game and got their revenge on the Crimson Tide, securing the program’s first championship since 1981. Dabo Swinney would lead the program to a playoff berth each season until 2021.

College basketball is a month away, and with that comes the excitement of non-conference basketball. Of course, every top tier team will schedule a handful of “buy games” against severely inferior opponents, but we are also in an age where coaches actively look to schedule games against fellow elite programs. There are probably 50 games that are worthy of recognition, but I will only highlight ten of them. A couple of limits are in place, however, as I will not include games from multi-team tournaments like the Maui Invitational and I will only feature a team twice at most. Without further ado, get ready to mark your calendar with these matchups.

During the WNBA off-season, many players continue playing basketball by competing for European teams. Some in recent years have been hesitant to do so for various reasons. Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier stopped playing overseas when she gave birth to her first child in 2022 but says that was just one of the reasons she stepped away. She added it strains her family having to be away six months out of the year, and finding childcare in a foreign country can be difficult. Last year, New York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart suited up for Fenerbahce, a Turkish club. Still, with her wife, Marta Xargay, expecting the couple's second child very soon, she was unsure whether she wanted to continue playing overseas.

Milwaukee Bucks - The Milwaukee Bucks media day was one of the most anticipated of this year. The trade to acquire Damian Lillard brings this excitement, as well as a different level of expectation for Milwaukee. Lillard was the center of attention of media day and he shared how he opened up to the idea of Milwaukee two weeks ago, rather than his first preferred destination, Miami. Lillard said all the right things when asked about how he would fit with Giannis.

October Baseball is here. The postseason field is set, and the Wild Card Series kicks off on Tuesday, October 3rd. With the expanded field of 12 coming into play for the second year, there are more teams that have a chance to win it all. Four teams have received first round byes (The Braves, Dodgers, Astros, and Orioles), with the remaining 8 teams playing in the best-of-three WC Series. Following the conclusion of the WC Series, the American League Division Series (ALDS) and the National League Division Series (NLDS) begin on Saturday October 7th. The American League Championship Series (ALCS) begins on Sunday October 15, and the National League Championship Series (NLCS) starts on Monday October 16, with the World Series rolling out on Friday October 27. For these postseason predictions, we will be predicting which teams will win the American League and National League pennants, and which team will take it all home in 2023.
